Born in
Claresholm Alberta in 1957 to an Air Force family, Kim-Diane Berthelet is an
emerging artist. She loves creating portraiture, landscape and still life with
elements of humanity, and sometimes a touch of whimsy. She just loves life!
Drawing as soon a crayon could fit in her hand, she started
to concentrate on graphite portraits as a teen. When she moved to Grande
Cache Alberta, she became involved in the board of the local art society, took
numerous workshops as well as university courses to improve her techniques. She
fell in love with oil, adding it into her repertoire of the graphite portraits
she was known for. She participated in community art shows as well as other
Alberta juried shows.
She set her brushes and pencils aside to focus on a new
career and dance when she moved to Calgary Alberta in 1993. After a 14-year
hiatus from art, she dived back in and took courses from several well-known
Alberta artists on everything from acrylics to modern and abstract art. She
also hung her work in many Calgary Art shows and a couple galleries. Ms.
Berthelet’s work has been purchased from local and national collectors.
Currently, she is working on a few private commissions and preparing a body of
work for future exhibition.
“When I have created landscape or still life, my hope is the viewer feels as if they are there in that moment, feeling the wind, or sipping the tea. When painting a portrait, it's not only the image of the subject that is important, their personality must shine through the canvas. While adding a touch of whimsy in some of my paintings, that sweet humor must be tangible, or I have just not captured what I have set out for. And I will keep painting until I do.” - Kim-Diane
